Global Consultant Evan Harter to speak at EDC Program

CENTREVILLE – What can local manufacturers do to compete in the world economy? On Friday, June 20, keynote speaker, Evan Harter, Executive Chairman of Asia Group Sourcing, will address that question at the St. Joseph County Economic Development Corporation annual meeting. This event will be held at Sturges-Young Civic Center and Auditorium, 201 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis, from 8-9:30 am.

Mr. Harter will discuss the critical nature of exporting as an important factor to business survival in today’s global economy. His presentation will cover the worldwide perspective and how to be a player in changing markets.

“The key element is that the U.S. population is a very small percentage of the world market and is not growing,” Harter said. “Other parts of the world are not just much larger, but are growing much faster, too.”

In his role at Asia Group Sourcing, Mr. Harter is responsible for formulating and developing the long-term strategies that position his company as a professional consulting services and advisory leader in strategy and business process expertise within the Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Sectors.

Mr. Harter has a successful history in Multinational Corporate Management, Start-ups as well as Venture Capital/Funding Sourcing.

He was Chairman/CEO of The Harter Group, a global manufacturer of Contract Office Furniture from 1967 through 1991. Under his tenure, the company grew from a regional producer of office seating to a recognized design leader of ergonomic products throughout the world that combine class design/styling with leading edge ergonomic principals.

“We feel very fortunate to have a renowned man of Evan Harter’s experience as keynote speaker at our event,” said Cathy Annis Knapp, St. Joseph County EDC executive director. “He will share valuable information appealing to businesses of all sizes.”

During the program, the EDC is also planning to recognize local companies who are currently selling globally.

A buffet breakfast will be provided and the cost will be $20 per person, payable at the door to the St. Joseph County EDC. Please RSVP to Cathy Knapp at 269-467-5663 or Marcia Saunders at 269-467-5653. Or, reserve a place via e-mail at annisc@stjosephcountymi.org.

The event is sponsored by Envirologic Technologies, Inc.
