New York Yankee VP to be featured at January 21 dinner
STURGIS – The public can experience an evening flavored by the New York Yankees at the St. Joseph County Sustainability Council annual fundraising dinner on January 21. The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Sturges-Young Auditorium and will feature speaker, Mark Newman, Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for the New York Yankees.
Newman will speak about the “Yankee Way” and how this philosophy can be applied to the local community. He will be bringing Yankees memorabilia such as autographed baseballs to be donated for bidding at the evening’s silent auction.
The silent auction and cash bar cocktail hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 6 p.m. and Newman’s presentation at 8 p.m. Other evening highlights will include music by the Sturgis High School Chamber Orchestra and door prizes from area businesses.
“It will be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion,” said Jay Newman, superintendent of the St. Joseph County ISD and founder of the Sustainability Council. “It’s a rare event to bring members of the New York Yankees to our County. Baseball fans won’t want to miss this speaker and the ability to bid on genuine Yankees auction items.”
Dinner tickets will be $25 per person and can be purchased by calling Sturges-Young Auditorium at (269) 651-8541, the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce at (269) 651-5758 and the Three Rivers Chamber of Commerce at (269) 278-8193. The mission of the Sustainability Council of St. Joseph County is to provide for the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future.
“We intend to do this by promoting a positive climate for business growth in St. Joseph County and the surrounding area,” Jay Newman said. “In doing this, we want to encourage the development of an entrepreneurial spirit in our youth and where appropriate in current employees. We desire to achieve this in a way that honors and supports the great people of this region and preserves our marvelous and beautiful environment.”
